Vienna is the capital city of Austria with a population of about 1.7 million. Vienna is the largest city in Austria and its cultural, political and economic centre. The historic center of Vienna has been added to UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage list. Thus, St. Stephen's Cathedral, the Imperial Palace and many other historic buildings are now recognized as being among the 700 outstanding cultural and natural monuments of mankind - others include the Pyramid Fields from Giza to Dahshur, the historic center of Rome, the Kremlin with the Red Square, the Chinese Wall, the Taj Mahal and the Grand Canyon. Vienna lies is close to Slovakia, Czech republic and Hungary. Major toursit attractions include the imperial palaces of the Hofburg and Schonbrunn. Schönbrunn, the former summer residence of the imperial family, is considered one of the most beautiful baroque palaces in Europe. Others attractions are the Danube Tower - 826 feet high tower with the rotating restaurant, Vienna Prater - more than 250 attractions: from the Giant Ferris Wheel (Riesenrad) to nostalgic ghost trains, merry-go-rounds, go-cart rinks, arcades, and stands for games of skill to ultra-modern rides that propel your adrenaline (and yourself) to lofty heights. There are also more than 100 art museums, which together attract over eight million visitors per year. There is hardly a city in the world that boasts as much green as Vienna – even in the city center. Parks and gardens enrich the city, and one can take long walks, hikes and bike tours in the nearby the Prater, Vienna Woods and Lobau leisure areas. Vienna is also famous for its coffee culture and the original Sachertorte.
